Suffering, Morality, and the Question of Evil
The culture we live in is deeply affected by an attitude that reduces complex, meaningful aspects of life to something smaller, flatter, and less significant. This thinking shows up in three major areas: knowledge, humanity, and morality. We also see the reality of pain, suffering, and evil in the world, particularly how they relate to belief, morality, and human value. Despite living in a time where evil is visible constantly through technology, the ability to call something truly evil depends on the existence of a real, objective moral standard. Nearly everyone experiences pain, loss, or hardship. There's no easy answer that makes suffering stop hurting, nor should there be, because feeling pain in the face of suffering is part of what affirms human value. If people stop caring about pain, they risk becoming desensitized to evil. Every worldview must answer the question of suffering, but Christianity stands out among them all.
